Behind the Scenes Photos of Sam and Caitriona Filming ‘Outlander’ in Edinburgh, Scotland (Day One)

[Spoiler Alert:  If you would rather be kept in the dark about scenes, costumes, makeup, etc for season three, go ahead and skip this post for now.]

Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall Fraser) were seen filming scenes for Outlander season three in Edinburgh, Scotland.  The preparation for filming along with tweets from extras beforehand led to the conclusion that Outlander was going to be filming in or around the Royal Mile area of Edinburgh on Tuesday. Fans in the area certainly were given a heads up about filming, and many flocked to the area to get a glimpse of the show in production.

Below are photos of Sam and Caitriona filming scenes, waiting for a scene, and fan photos.  There are also photos of filming prep and extras. Cesar Domboy (Fergus) is also seen in one photo.

Question: What became of Claire’s grey hair?  Did she dye it before she goes back?

Check back as photos will be added as they become available.  Photos are from January 17, 2017 or earlier.

Updated with many more photos on 1/19/2017.

She might have dyed it, but I also seem to remember her hair being gray only on the top layered bits? I’d have to watch DIA to be sure. If it was only that, then pulling it back and up might hide it. I personally thought they aged her a bit to far at the end of S2, especially since an overriding theme in the books is that she and Jamie age *really* well. So maybe they adjusted the aging makeup for Claire?

If the small grey wisps are there, I can’t detect it from these photos. But I miss the updo of Season 1, not the color but the amount of body in her hair specifically at the roots. I can understand not wanting to have a permanent wave applied for each season but curl the roots then with product. She is so lovely and I really dislike the change to her hair last season. It is not flattering when it is up. She is a lovely actress.

a bit hard to tell in these pics – but I think that the grey is still there – just can’t see it as well with her hair pulled up.
