Second trailer looks even more amazing. I’ve said it before though and I say it again, I really disliked Claire for expecting so much from Jamie in this part of the story.
She said he owed her a life but he had saved her from Fort William, The Witches Trial and Wentworth, where he made the biggest sacrifice he could give her. Why did her saving of Jamie the once, make him owe her anything more? I doubt Jamie would have asked the same thing of her.
Also, having seen the results of Wentworth on Jamie surely, if her love for him was so great, how could she ask what she did of him in DIA.
She was supposed to have made her choice some time back but it always irked me that she chose to still wear Frank’s ring. That seemed very un fare to Jamie having to see that reminder every day. Surely if she still felt attachment to it, she could have kept it somewhere safe but not on display. I just found it in bad taste.
There was also the fact that she never questioned why Jamie supposedly went back on his promise then. Do not want to give away spoilers, but Jamie had proven how strongly he valued keeping any promise he gave at Wentworth. Surely that should have been something Claire ought to have considered before jumping to the worst conclusion and then making Jamie suffer even more as a result.
Yes I know she suffered in a different way but my sympathy at that point was diluted towards her because she was intelligent enough to realise she could not put the blame squarely on Jamie. She got all the support and sympathy and did she wonder more than fleetingly what had happened to Jamie. It seemed not.
Have to say she did redeem herself in my eyes by book 3 but it took a while to forgive her.
Back to Season 2 trailer. The acting looks even more spellbinding and the costumes and sets looks fantastic. So cannot wait for April now but at least we now know which month it’s restarting. I’m going to be stocking up on the hankies and praying for Voyager to be given the go ahead in the meantime.

I so agree with You Von,read all books,Claire only redeemed herself for me also in book 3.But of course we should ask DG about it as she wrote Claire this way!Looking forward season 2!Love the acting in the trailer its brilliant!

        Hi AussieSuzie,
Good to see your views and I know we are not alone in our thoughts on Claire. I believe Diana is something of a Claire herself. She explained why she put Jamie through so much in Book One on one of her blogs. A good explanation but the main gist seemed to be; that without the extreme events he went through, he would not have become so strong later and the drama would not have been as good for the readers.
I would also like to know her take on Claire but she does hint often that she has no time for weak women. I believe she feels that making Claire so stubborn probably adds to her character strength.
Did you see the cast at the Golden Globes Sunday.
Cat looked stunning and considering that Sam was ill he also looked amazing in Bond style outfit. In fact everyone of the gang were so immaculate and it was sad that out of three noms they did not get one.
We have to hope next year will bring forth their justly deserved rewards.
Especially, as you and I have agreed, the next season looks brilliant!!

I agree that my biggest problem in the first and second books with Claire is how often she assumes she knows the underlying reasons for everything and we all know what assuming leads to.

That being said, I would argue that the only time Claire’s life was in immediate danger was in Crainsmuir during the Witch Trial. Both times that Black Jack got a hold of her, she was certainly in danger of being harmed, but I don’t think he would’ve killed her – at least not immediately. He’s not wanton in his villainy, plus he thought she might have some information he could use. So when it comes to life saving, I’d say they were square (him for the witch trial, her for post-Wentworth). Claire’s secondary reasoning that she couldn’t condemn (if that’s what one would call preventing the birth of someone centuries in the future) Frank to non-existence, I believe is the more substantial argument (and as we know, that – in part – is what Jamie agrees with).

I know lots of people think it’s more convenient to throw away the Claire-Frank relationship (Lord knows that at least from Claire’s perspective, Frank had plenty of check marks in the “minus” column) but it was important to Claire and her character arch/life story. Like him or not, Frank put Claire on the path to Jamie (quite inadvertently, whether you believe in destiny or not). And in much the same way, Jamie put Claire (deliberately) on the path back to Frank.

        Hi DrBlueFrogPhD
It’s nice to hear from you after so long and sorry I took so long to reply but I have been very poorly.
As usual you make some valued points and to some extent I do agree with those. However, I still feel it was hurtful that Claire should carry on wearing Frank’s ring along with Jamie’s and I think her viewpoint on changing history rather odd for an intelligent woman to have. Especially as she had seen the results of the history in the form of history books, memorial sites and Frank himself being alive.
I realise it would be instinctive to want to try and change events but such a thing would have had a domino effect. So many things would have altered, not just Franks birth and Culloden.
Yes I agree Randall may not have wanted Claire dead straight away but he did have a tendancy to be overtaken by his sadistic nature. I believe her death would have been the final outcome if Jamie had not rescued her when he did. So I do believe she owed him more than he owed her. I also feel that Jamie always forgave Claire whatever she did.. Love like Jamie’s was unconditional but Claire’s was not.

Culloden Moor is like impending doom. So, so sad. Even reading of it in the books I found myself saying, “just stop it from happening!”. I expect I’ll feel the same way watching it.
