Caitriona Balfe on That Print Shop Scene

[Spoiler Alert:  If you have not read Voyager and wish to remain spoiler-free for season three, best to skip this post for now]

Caitriona Balfe commented on the print shop scene for season three while doing press for the Golden Globe Awards.  Speaking to both Elle and Entertainment Weekly, it sound like the cast and crew understood that this was a pivotal scene that fans for which they have high hopes.  There is also a video interview from Gold Derby at the bottom of the post.

“I think it was written very beautifully,” Balfe teased to EW. “Matt B. Roberts wrote it. It has every emotion in it. The excitement, the tentativeness, the nerves, everything. I think it’s really beautiful.”

When reminded of how important the scene is to fans, Balfe admitted, “we better get it right.”

The couple are set to find each other again in a “very heartwarming, very tender” reunion, Balfe told ELLE.com at the pre-Golden Globes BAFTA tea in Los Angeles.

“You can’t keep these two apart, really,” she said. “We do spend some time on what both of the characters go through when they’re separated. We see a lot of Jamie’s life in those 20 years, and we see some of Claire’s. My story picks up where we left at the end of episode one, season two. So you’ll see definitely some Tobias Menzies, which is never a bad thing, I would say.”

“It’s also very fraught,” Balfe said, “because I think anyone who’s spent any time apart from someone that they love, even if it’s just a long-distance relationship, once you see each other again, you have all the expectations, and you have all of the things that you think you’ll say, and the way you think it’ll go. Life’s never like that. I love that it’s kind of complicated.”

But will it get steamy between the historical sheets?

“It might be a little bit. I’m not a good objective judge of how steamy it is.”
