‘Outlander’: Season One, Volume One Coming to Blu-ray & DVD on March 3rd

(Please scroll to the bottom of the post for the newest information.)

It is always a great time to be an Outlander fan, but this past week was overflowing with new photos, a trailer, and the series’ panel at the TCA press tour. There is no way it could get better, right? Of course it can because we now have the US release date for Outlander: Season One, Volume One on DVD and Blu-ray.

Videoeta.com and Amazon both list March 3rd as the release date for the DVD and Blu-ray of the first half of the season. Both are available for pre-order from Amazon. Unfortunately, there is no additional information at this time, including cover art and special features.

A few other international release dates were previously announced, including Canada (also on March 3rd), Australia (March 5th), and Scandinavia (March 23rd).

Pre-order Outlander: Season One, Volume One on DVD and Blu-ray. Please remember that release dates are subject to change and DVDs are formatted for different regions and may not work in all players.

UPDATE (1/12/15):
The Amazon listings for the DVD & Blu-ray have been taken down and reappeared before disappearing again. VideoETA still lists the release date as March 3rd and we will keep you up to date on any new information regarding the release.

UPDATE (1/15/2015): While Amazon pulled the pre-order page to order the DVD and Blu-Ray, I (Sarah) saved it in my Wishlist before it was pulled. Today, I checked the Wishlist and there is still no page, but there is an image of the DVD.

You lucky Canadians can pre-order the DVD, Blu-Ray, and Collector’s Edition now.

UPDATE (1/20/15): Here is the official press release:

CULVER CITY, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2015– Based on Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling book series, OUTLANDER: SEASON 1, VOLUME 1 will debut on Digital HD Feb. 9, and on March 3, fans can add the Limited Collector’s Edition to their libraries, along with the Blu-ray and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This New York Times best-selling series that encompasses romance, science fiction, history and adventure has been published in 26 countries and translated into 23 languages, selling more than 26 million copies worldwide. Legions of devoted fans were delighted when Gabaldon agreed to the production of the story she began more than 20 years ago.

OUTLANDER premiered on Starz to rave reviews and record-breaking audience numbers, starring Caitriona Balfe (Super 8) as WWII nurse Claire Randall, who, while on a second honeymoon with her husband, finds herself inexplicably transported back in time to Scotland, circa 1743. Forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous Scottish warrior played by Sam Heughan (A Princess for Christmas), Claire begins an extremely challenging life that places her in two completely different worlds and with two different loves. Praised by critics and fans for the high production value and authentic period detail, Gabaldon’s portrayal of her amazingly strong female protagonist truly comes to life in this visually breathtaking series from Sony Pictures Television.

OUTLANDER: SEASON 1, VOLUME 1 contains all eight episodes in two-disc sets loaded with special features for collectors and fans alike. Avid viewers can also follow Claire’s epic journey through time with the Limited Collector’s Edition, featuring a 32-page book filled with photographs, excerpts from the scripts, and an introduction from author Diana Gabaldon. Also included is a placeholder for Volume 2, allowing fans to complete their Season 1 collection.

The stand-alone Blu-ray and DVD sets for OUTLANDER: SEASON 1, VOLUME 1 willinclude two all-new featurettes. In the first featurette, “Outlander: An Epic Adaptation,” Diana Gabaldon shares the story of writing her first book and her thoughts about executive producer Ronald D. Moore bringing her stories to life. In the second, “Authentic in Design: The Dresses and Kilts of Outlander,” producers and costume designers take viewers through the extraordinary wardrobe and share the distinct process of creating 18th-century fashion for the series.

Blu-ray exclusives include 21 deleted scenes and four additional, all-new featurettes. Fans can take an inside look at the casting for the show in “Casting Outlander,” and see how the actors immersed themselves in horseback training, Gaelic classes and much more for their roles in “Emerging a Scot: Cast Goes to Boot Camp.” Viewers can also learn about the significance of the home to the Clan MacKenzie in “On Location: Castle Leoch and the Magic of Scotland,” and take an in-depth walk through of both the set and stages with executive producer Ronald D. Moore.

OUTLANDER also stars Tobias Menzies (“Game of Thrones”), Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot), Graham McTavish (The Hobbit trilogy), Lotte Verbeek (“The Borgias”), Duncan Lacroix (“Vikings”), Grant O’Rourke and Stephen Walters. The series was developed by executive producer and Peabody Award Winner Ronald D. Moore (2005, “Battlestar Galactica”), best known for his contributions to the Star Trek franchise. Outlander is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company, and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Smart move, Starz! I’m sure there are still millions of fans who can’t get cable who will buy these DVD’s…. and millions with cable/satellite who will buy them, myself included. Thanks bunches!!!

  • UnknownFangirl

um the blu ray shows a run time of 90 minutes … that can’t be right… right? Also, dubbed and subtitled in Thai? Are we sure this is legit?

    • MyrnaSchultz

I was just looking at it on Amazon & wondering the same thing, but it did say two discs also…I put a post on Amazon asking the same questions, I’ll see if there’s any comments/replies! Hope to keep you posted!! I couldn’t help but wonder why, also, it is coming out just one month before the return for the rest of the last eight episodes! Then also wondering if (as it also says Volume 1) does that mean only the 1st eight episodes are on the DVD’s? Not enough description in the Amazon profile of Outlander Season 1, Volume 1 to suit me.

  • Pam Kerns Coloton

    Already preordered from Amazon. Thanks.

  • Karen Turley

I will be holding out for the full season 1. The prices are a little extreme for a mere 8 episodes.

  • Terri Cauto

I preordered it. Amazon said it can be returned. So I figure I
wouldn’t be stuck if it is a ripoff. Would amazon really sully their reputation with knock offs? I actually have a promo of “Sassenach” from Starz.

  • lady

Scam? If they want credit card info now, and this is only on this site, NOT on Dianas pages, or any of Starz page..Anyone can set up to sell anything, to get info, and the discount is an enticement. .

    • DrBlueFrogPhD

It very well could be legit, but it’s not completely set up. It actually looks like a “place holder” page, actually. That being said, why spend $32 on half a season when I’m sure the full season will probably be available in July or August for $45 or less.

  • Sàsabhan

I really doub it. If it’s legit, it should have been here in the first place>> http://www.boomerangshop.com/web/index.php/app/product/fnc/search/keyword/outlander<< not Amazon. This is the famous shop for any official series sale in Thailand. Sadly, our Outlander is not currently on the list.

  • DrBlueFrogPhD

While I have no doubt that Starz could release split season DVD sets (as I do recall, Fox did that with Glee Season 1 – and it PISSED a bunch of people off) after looking at the Amazon post, I’m doubting it’s legitimacy. Either way, I personally will wait for the full Season 1 to be released. $32 seems a bit high for only half a season.

  • donnahays

With my Starz @ $16 a month x 2 months, I spent $32. I will buy it no matter the cost! Big fan!

  • Pam Kerns Coloton

If it’s anything like Dowtown Abbey or Game of Thrones, it won’t matter if u wait til the full season is out. I paid less for the individual DVD on EBay for the above by buying the single DVD. The sets were just going to high on EBay and Amazon. With the popularity out Outlander, I expect it will be higher.

Columbia House is showing it available for pre-order

Has Brianna and Roger been cast yet?
